Through the Topsector Horticulture & Starting Materials, business community, knowledge institutions and government work together to stimulate innovation in the sector. Since 2012, more than 250 research and innovation projects have been funded through the topsector. Around 400 companies are involved in this.

The results of all these studies end up with the R&D departments of the participating companies. Part of the research, however, remains on the shelf and will not be further developed into concrete products, processes or services. Topsector Horticulture & Starting Materials strives to also transfer this accumulated knowledge to the market. Only then is there real innovation for the sector!

Through the program IMPACT 2025, Topsector Horticulture & Starting Materials wants to retrieve ideas and involve new parties to translate (existing) research into concrete applications in practice. For this, the topsector is organizing a series of activities in 2019 and 2020.

innovation meetups

The societal challenges and technological developments of today have a major IMPACT on the world of tomorrow. A good conversation about these changes in the world of Horticulture & Starting Materials is desperately needed. In four MeetUps, Topsector Horticulture & Starting Materials invites selected stakeholders to discuss these developments and their impact with each other.

For the first three MeetUps, leading inspiring (international) speakers are invited to present them. We will then enter into discussions with each other in order to arrive at new insights, connections and ideas for the way in which horticulture must respond to this.

In the fourth MeetUp we discuss how research in the Horticulture & Starting Materials sector can generate more impact in the horticultural practice. We also choose the researcher of the year with the largest IMPACT. The last MeetUp of this year we will get started to make the connection between startups and business.

On 10 December 2019, the Topsector Horticulture & Starting Materials will award a prize to a researcher who has achieved an optimal social impact with his or her research within the horticultural sector: the Topsector Horticulture & Starting Materials Research IMPACT Award.

And which global trends are changing Dutch horticulture? How can horticulture respond to this in a smart way? These questions are central to the White Paper Challenge, which
Topsector Horticulture & Starting Materials  is organizing for the second time. There's a prize of  € 1.500,- available for the winner.

The world population is increasing rapidly and with it the demand for sufficient and healthy food. How do you ensure even more efficient food production in the greenhouse to meet this growing demand for food? With this question,
Topsector Horticulture & Starting Materials challenges startups and scale-ups throughout the Netherlands for te in the Innovation Prize challenge.

Welke maatregelen moeten we nemen? Wat kunnen we leren van eerdere ervaringen en welke technologische oplossingen zijn er mogelijk? In deze MeetUp kijken we vanuit enkele praktijkcases naar een volgende stap.
